16. SINGAPURA

PHONE: 671.647.2088/9
HOURS: 11am – 10pm, M-Th & Sun; 11am-11pm, F & Sat
LOCATION: Royal Orchid Hotel, 626 Pale San Vitores Road, Tumon

FOOD: I ordered the Beef Rendang, which is a spicy beef dish mixed with potatoes and rice on the side. I could really taste all the Asian spices in the mix. Personally, I enjoyed it, although I’ve heard some people are turned off by the strong smell of one of the spices. But if you like Asian food, spice, and beef…you’ll probably like this dish.

PRICE: The Beef Rendang was $14.99. Prices range from high to low, but you probably won’t find anything under $10.00 for dinner.

PLACE: The place was nice, modern and clean.  The service was good.

My overall personal rating: *B*      ~ CAPEESH

FRIED CLAMS
Singapura has all the right elements for a new eatery on a small island that craves something different. With the white brick walls and diverse crowd, it’s the kind of place that can make you feel like you’re not on Guam, even if for just a brief moment. I had the Hainan Chicken Rice, which admittedly didn’t look too appetizing based on the menu picture, but it seemed the best place to start since it’s boasted as “Singapore’s most famous national dish”. The chicken was tender and served with aromatic rice and three dipping sauces: chili, ginger and sweet soy. The sauces provide a nice variety ensuring at least one of three pleases your taste buds. It was a simple entrée and certainly not the most exotic, but the price was decent at $11.99. We also had the Fried Clams for an appetizer, which I think had more of a Singaporean flare. It was enough for 3 people (and then some) for only $10.99. Other menu items are pricier, so this might be a place that you go to treat yourself if you want a different taste and aren’t hesitant to spend a little more than usual. The service was excellent. Would I come back? It provided a nice blend of the different Asian cuisines I’ve tried, so at some point I’ll be a little more adventurous and try something like the Black Pepper Crab. I give Singapura a [B] rating.     ~ La-Di Da-Di
