25. DESPERADOS

PHONE: 671.649.TACO
LOCATION: San Vitores Road, Ocean Plaza, Tumon

FOOD: At Desperados they give you complimentary chips and salsa, which is always good. For dinner, I ordered the Steak Burrito, which consisted of steak, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream wrapped in a flour tortilla and served with Spanish rice and refried beans on the side. It was not bad - I liked the way the steak was cooked and marinated, but you could hardly taste anything else in the burrito besides the steak and the tortilla.

PRICE: The Steak Burrito was $12.95. The menu offers a wide variety of Mexican dishes to choose from.

PLACE: The restaurant itself is quite small, but cute. There are two sides of the restaurant: one is the bar and the other side is the restaurant itself. The air-conditioning was not working that evening, so it was uncomfortably hot. The service was good, but the food takes quite a while… thank goodness for the complimentary chips and salsa.

My overall personal rating: *C+*     ~ CAPEESH

FISH TACOS
Desperados was our second try at Mexican on the island. It’s a fairly new establishment with two separate seating areas: one more for family dining and the other side for more of the dinner-with-drinks patron. Typically lined with Asian eateries, it was nice to visit Tumon for a different taste. Nothing special about the chips and salsa, but it was enough to hold you over during the wait. I had the Fish Fajitas for $13.00, which came with Spanish rice, guacamole, beans and cheese. The tuna came out sizzling, was seasoned well, and garnished with bell peppers. The serving was more than enough to make three fajitas, but the sides were a little sparse. The waitress was friendly and good about bringing out more salsa and sides upon request. Would I come back? All the tables were filled, which is a good sign for them…but I’m more inclined to go for a few beers for my round 2. I give Desperados a [B] rating.     ~La-Di Da-Di
