12. TU RÉ CAFÉ

PHONE: 671.479.8873
HOURS: 6:30am - 8pm, M-F; 6:30am - 3pm, Sat & Sun
LOCATION: Marine Corps Drive, Agana (Across Citibank)

FOOD: I had the French Onion soup (it was a special that day) and the Pacific Salmon Steak sandwich. As a fan of French Onion soup, I could not have been more disappointed. It tasted like they bought a generic french onion soup base at the grocery store and threw in a few small pieces of mozzarella cheese. I think they should work on making it better or stop serving it. However, what lacked in the soup was made up for in the Pacific Salmon Steak sandwich. The salmon was seasoned well and the meat was thick with a miso paste, although I would have wanted it cooked a little bit longer. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was that there was a bit too much bread. I think thinner bread or serving it with another starch would have made the meal much better.

PRICE: The French Onion Soup was about $5.00 and the Salmon Sandwich was $11.65.

PLACE: It’s a nice café with a good location. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful view. Service was not bad.

CHICKEN PESTO
Instantly I liked the ambiance of this little café in Agana. The colors, the mood and the décor all blend well, but perhaps the highlight is the wooden deck outside with a perfect view of Agana Bay. I’m sure what helped is that I enjoyed a meal here in the middle of a work day, but whatever the case may be, it’s an excellent place to meet up and dine. I ordered the Chicken Pesto sandwich – seared chicken thighs, swiss cheese, red onion, tomato, roasted garlic and pesto on a mini baguette with a small helping of fresh fruit. The sandwich was tasty, but would have been better on wheat (which I’ll choose next time) and with chicken breast instead of thighs. Also, the fruit assortment was limited with cantaloupe, melon and a grape. On two separate occasions, I ordered the Pastrami Swiss Open Face sandwich – pastrami, swiss cheese, avocado, tomato, carmelized onions, spicy brown mustard on a mini baguette. They scored with this sandwich the first time and then overloaded on the spicy brown mustard the second time, so I guess it's really a hit or miss. For lunch, meals range between $8-$12. Would I come back? I’ll take a break, but I definitely want to enjoy the ocean breeze with bites from their breakfast and dinner menus. I give tu Ré Café a [B] rating.    ~ La-Di Da-Di
