I’ve been meaning to try Pietro for some time, so when they departed Acanta Mall, I was happy it was just to relocate and not to close altogether. I didn’t realize it’s a Japanese-inspired Italian eatery, so that was a pleasant surprise. I ordered my regular Bruschetta appetizer – 2 servings for around $3.00. Price was good, but taste was so-so. I would’ve preferred the bread a little more toasted and a bit more olive oil blended with the tomatoes. For my main course, I ordered the Meat Sauce Eggplant Doria for $9.75, which according to the waitress is one of the more popular menu items. It’s a cheese, rice and eggplant mixture covered in marinara meat sauce and shredded cheese and then baked prior to serving. It sated my appetite, but tasted very much like the Rice Croquet (which we also ordered as an appetizer). They had a pleasant staff and the atmosphere was enjoyable, but they had a hard time keeping up with the dinner rush. Would I come back? It didn’t turn out to be my top choice for Italian, but they have so much on the menu (lots of seafood pasta items), so I’d like to explore a little more. I give Pietro a [B-] rating. ~La-Di Da-Di

FOOD: I tried the Rice Croquette as an appetizer and it tasted exactly the way I expected it to, which was enjoyable. For my main course, I ordered the Chicken and Mushroom Doria, which consisted of two kinds of mushrooms, broccoli, rice, chicken, and cheese on top. The only way I can describe the dish is that it was ‘okay’. There was nothing great about it and I can never appreciate canned mushrooms in a dish. I probably won’t be ordering it again.
PRICE: The Rice Croquette was $5.15 and the Chicken and Mushroom Doria was $11.95.
PLACE: The restaurant setting is pleasant and the service was alright. However, it does take some time before you receive your order. For a future visit, I would like to go back and try the pasta.
